Pedigree Border Collie Puppies
What Does “Pedigree” Mean?
A pedigree Border Collie is a purebred dog with a recorded family history.
Each puppy comes with official registration papers that show their lineage, including their parents and previous generations.
What Do Pedigree Papers Show?
Pedigree papers include important details such as:
• The puppy’s registered name
• Date of birth
• Microchip number
• Sire (father) and dam (mother)
• Breeder details
• Generations of lineage
These papers provide proof of your puppy’s background and breeding.
Registered with Dogs NSW (ANKC)
My puppies are registered with Dogs NSW, which is part of Dogs Australia (ANKC).
This is the recognised body in Australia for purebred dogs and pedigree registration.
Main vs Limited Registration
There are two types of pedigree registration:
Main Register
• For breeding or conformation showing
Limited Register
• For pet homes
• Cannot be bred from or shown in conformation
• Can still participate in dog sports
Most puppies are sold on limited registration unless otherwise agreed.
Why Choosing the Right Breeder Matters
Not all breeders follow the same standards. When choosing a puppy, it’s important to understand the difference between responsible, health-focused breeding and simply breeding dogs without proper planning, testing, or long-term accountability.
Responsible breeders invest significant time, testing, and resources into producing healthy, well-adjusted puppies.
This may include:
• DNA testing
• Hip and elbow screening
• Careful pedigree selection
• Temperament evaluation
• Ongoing support for puppy owners
While cheaper puppies may seem appealing initially, poor breeding practices can sometimes lead to long-term health and behavioural issues that may become emotionally and financially costly later on.
Understanding Registration & Breeder Claims
There are many different registries and breeder identification systems in Australia, which can sometimes be confusing for puppy buyers.
A government breeder identification number or council registration simply means someone is legally permitted to breed dogs. It does not necessarily indicate:
• health testing
• ethical breeding practices
• pedigree registration
• breeder accountability
My puppies are bred through a recognised pedigree system with a strong focus on health, temperament, and responsible breeding practices.
Choosing a puppy should never be based on price alone.
A well-bred puppy gives you the best possible foundation for:
• health
• temperament
• trainability
• long-term quality of life
When you choose a responsible breeder, you are also choosing:
✔ Transparency
✔ Ongoing support
✔ Careful planning
✔ Accountability
